My bees needed a nearby water source, so I decided to make one. This bee waterer was carved out of a chunk of local granite using a masonry blade on my circular saw, a 4" angle grinder, a hammer and a chisel. The bees love it!
To answer your questions:
1. No, the bees don't drown. It was installed all last season and I saw maybe 2 or 3 dead bees in it per week. They quickly learned how to land on the edge and crawl down to the water.
2. It's really big. It holds about 5 gallons of water, so I can top it off once a week if it doesn't rain. It didn't go dry all last year.
3. Yes you can make your own bee waterer or bird bath using these tools:
• 7" Masonry Blade:
• 4" Angle Grinder Blade:
